Boiled Eggs and Soldiers

Did you ever dip toast soldiers into the perfect runny yolk? It’s perfect for a Sunday lazy morning, and any other day when you want filling breakfast cooked in 5 minutes.

This Boiled Eggs and Soldiers recipe is one of my favorite breakfasts but also snacks especially when the mid-morning hunger kicks in after a light breakfast. It is the perfect snack for adults and kids alike. Nothing beats this especially if accompanied by coffee or tea. This recipe is also good for vegetarians and gluten-free if you choose gluten-free bread or veggie sticks

Additionally, it can be integrated as part of a weight-loss or maintenance program, of course. For weight loss, it might be advisable to add another egg and remove the cheese. Additionally, instead of eating it every day with wholemeal bread, you may swap it with some boiled asparagus or tomatoes and cucumbers for example.

Don’t feel guilty if you take this as a snack especially if you integrated into a well-balanced diet. When we don’t eat snacks between meals we think that we are saving these calories for a larger lunch or dinner. However, when hunger strikes we then tend to overeat and eating just empty calories.

Boiled Eggs and Soldiers Step by Step

There are many ways how to prepare the perfect egg with a runny yolk. This is the method I use most cause it’s also good for eggs stored in the fridge.

I use a very small pan, and fill half of it with water. Subsequently, place the egg in the water and turn on a small-medium burner on high heat.

Wait a few minutes until you start seeing the first bubbles forming. If yolk, take the egg out in 2 minutes. If you prefer it slightly firmer or the egg is large then give it an extra 1-2 minutes.

In the meantime, put a slice of wholemeal bread in the toaster. Drizzle the toast with olive oil and cut into soldiers when ready.  Finally, when the egg is ready, lift from the pan with a spoon and place it in an egg cup.

Serve it still hot, with soldiers, goat’s cheese, and coffee. Sprinkle a little bit of salt on the yolk for a tastier boiled egg.

Accompaniments and Sides

I find that this tastes wonderful with toasted bread and cheese. However, if you prefer you can instead add another egg and add some salad or green veggies as a side.

Honestly, I always accompany this with a cup of coffee in the morning.
