How to make Soft Boiled Eggs Soldiers

There are many ways how to prepare the perfect egg with a runny yolk. This is the method I use most cause it’s also good for eggs stored in the fridge.

  • I use a very small pan, and fill half of it with water. Subsequently, place the egg in the water and turn on a small-medium burner on high heat.
  • Wait a few minutes until you start seeing the first bubbles forming. If yolk, take the egg out in 2 minutes. If you prefer it slightly firmer or the egg is large then give it an extra 1-2 minutes.
  • In the meantime, put a slice of wholemeal bread in the toaster. Drizzle the toast with olive oil and cut into soldiers when ready.  Finally, when the egg is ready, lift it from the pan with a spoon and place it in an egg cup.
  • Serve it still hot, with soldiers, goat’s cheese, and coffee. Sprinkle a little bit of salt on the yolk for a tastier boiled egg.

Soft Boiled Eggs Soldiers – Step by Step

Once you get a hold of it the cracking and serving a boiled egg becomes easy even for kids.

STEP 1

To crack the egg, I usually place the egg in an egg cup since it’s quite hot to handle with my fingers. However, some people prefer to crack it while holding the egg in their hands.

STEP 2

Using a teaspoon, I crack the top edge of the egg. Then with the help of the teaspoon, I push the teaspoon down a crack and lift up gently the top of the egg.

STEP 3

I love to sprinkle some salt in the runny yolk and serve it with buttery toast soldiers on the side. Try to dip a toast soldier into the soft runny yolk and eat it! With the spoon eat the white harder part of the egg. Alternating egg yolk and egg white is part of the fun!

STEP 4

I find that this tastes wonderful also with cheese. As a healthier alternative, I suggest you use boiled asparagus soldiers or some salad on the side.

For a completely British breakfast, serve with some hot cup of tea!
