Chinese Sweet And Sour Meatballs With Turkey Mince

Ingredients
  

  • 450 g turkey mince (or ground pork)
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp ginger root grated
  • ½ tsp white pepper
  • 1 tbsp tamari sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Sauce:

  • 1 carrot
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 pineapple can 400ml or ½ fresh pineapple
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 4 tomatoes medium, quartered

Instructions
 

  • Finely chop the onions, and grate the ginger root.
  • In a large bowl, mix the ground pork, egg, bread crumbs, onion.
  • Subsequently, add the Tamari sauce, white pepper and ginger root and mix well.
  • Shape the mixture into one inch balls.
  • Either place the meatballs in a preheated oven to 200 degrees or otherwise use a big pan and fry them in two batches using the olive oil for frying.
  • For the sauce, finely chop the carrot and the green pepper.
  • In a large pan over medium heat, pour a cup of pineapple juice, soy sauce and vinegar until smooth.
  • Add the pineapple chunks, carrot and green pepper into the sauce and leave to simmer. Occasionally stir, and add water if necessary cause the mixture might dry quickly..
  • Leave to cook for 15 minutes uncovered. Then add the meatballs and quartered tomatoes for 5 minutes on low heat.
